You Can’t Run and Stay Mad [+ A Treadmill Workout]

Today didn’t start off very well at all. I attempted sleep last night without a sleep aid and that was a terrible mistake. I got about 3 minutes of sleep. When you’re already having a hard time, lack of sleep doesn’t help! I was really emotional and just felt fragile from the time I woke up until I saw my husband’s face after he walked in the door from work. When I’m weak, he gives me strength just by looking at me or giving me a hug, or kiss. Because of him and our kids, I want to be better. I want to feel better. I want to be the strong wife and mom I know I have been and can be again. It’s difficult knowing why you’re struggling but not being able to fix it quickly.

As much as I try to enjoy running (and fail), I sure have learned to embrace the mood boost it’s been giving me lately. In the last week I’ve completed 4 workouts as promised and 3 of 4 have been running, jogging, uphill climbing and/or a mixture of them all. Cardio has been my go-to lately and I’m loving it.

Tomorrow is visit number two with my therapist and I’m anxious to go – anxious as in, can’t wait. I’m excited! I feel like I clicked with her immediately and while the first visit was pretty much basic stuff, I’m looking forward to digging a little deeper. Her advice to me during our first session together was to take each day one at a time and to do whatever I can to get moving each day. While I haven’t worked out every day, I’m making progress on the very inactive summer that I had.

The weather is getting cooler and I hope to get some runs in outside but lately I’ve just hopped on the treadmill and got to work. It seems to be working out just fine for now.

i ran today

Here’s the simple treadmill workout that I just completed:

Treadmill Workout

  • 5 minute warm-up
  • 35 minutes of steep incline walking (incline varied mostly from 7 to 10)
  • 5 minute cool-down

Total time: 45 minutes

The one non-treadmill workout I completed last week was actually a Les Mills Grit workout from Les Mills On Demand (non-affiliate link; opens in new window). Oh my wow do I love that app! I fell in love with Les Mills BodyPump right around 4 years ago now (hard to believe) and I’m so excited that they have Les Mills On Demand. You can choose from programs like Grit, Combat, Pump and more. I’ve been using it on the iPad lately which is annoying but they say they’re bringing an app to Xbox soon so I hope to be able to view it on my TV one of these days. You can also stream workouts online but my computer’s in the dining room meaning I’d have to workout on the table cuz there’s just no room! And that ain’t happenin’.

You can try it free for 10 days and then it’s $12.99/month after that. Not bad at all. I just started my first month and I hope to make heavy use of it these next few weeks!

I know running won’t cure my depression on its own, but it sure seems to be helping me get to the next day with a little more pep in my step.

Anyway,

I can smell bacon and pancakes so it must be close to dinnertime. :D

Talk to you soon,

XO
