If there’s one thing I’ve realized over the chaotic summer I had, it’s that if I don’t make a plan to do specific things, I get overwhelmed and do pretty much nothing that I should be doing. And then I get pissed at myself because I didn’t get anything done. It’s like I either have it all together and everything’s running smoothly or everything’s a big old mess. There’s no in-between!
For me, fall just seems like the time to get things in order. The kids are back in school and there’s more structure which I’m totally cool with. I dig structure. There, I said it.
I also love to-do lists. Like really looooove to-do lists. I get more done when I make them and use them and it feels great to cross things off as they’re completed. I’m keeping this month’s to-do list somewhat simple yet productive at the same time. Right now I’m putting more focus on myself and doing things that I know will help me mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
October To Do’s:
- Read one book. I started a book a couple month’s ago now that I haven’t finished yet, it’s called My Fight/Your Fight by Ronda Rousey. Even if you aren’t a fan of mixed martial arts, Rousey has a lot of motivational things to say and I’m thankful for her book. It’s a keeper that I’ll definitely come back to again and again. I just need to make time to finish it.
- Workout 4 days per week. I’m just getting back into working out again and my fitness level is nowhere near what it used to be and that’s okay! My plan now is to shoot for being active (on purpose, haha) 4 days per week – this also gives me 3 off days to look forward to. I’m not following any specific program right now at all, I’m just kind of rolling with whatever I feel like doing when I know it’s time to workout.
- Complete 3 therapy sessions and journal them afterwards. I met with a new-to-me therapist this past Tuesday and I really, really like her. I scheduled appointments with her for the next 3 weeks and I couldn’t be more excited. Is that weird? I’m ready to get to work. I want to make time after each appointment to journal my thoughts about the session, key takeaways, goals, etc. I haven’t been in therapy since I was 17 or 18 so I’m really welcoming the help to work through the shitstorm that is 2015.
- Prepare for and attend my telepsychiatry appointment. Although I’ve been on numerous different antidepressant medications, I have never sat down with a psychiatrist. I worked with a regular medical doctor who prescribed medications given my family and personal history. That was all fine and well, I just figured since I was attending therapy and they offered psychiatric services that I would give it a shot. It’s all going to be via teleconference! That. Is. Weird. It took me FOUR phone calls to different places before I was finally accepted in as a new patient to see somebody. There is a tremendous shortage of psychiatrists right now. Thankfully I was able to make an appointment that was less than 3 weeks out – whereas it’s not uncommon to have to wait 2+ months. It’s scheduled for mid-October and I’m nervous but hopeful.
- 15 minutes of creativity each day. I love all things creative. I love writing, I love painting, I love stamping, I love coloring and I love making seasonal crafts. I need to take more time to do all of these things I enjoy! Joy has been noticeably absent from my life for most of this year and that needs to get turned around ASAP. Fifteen minutes isn’t very long at all, it’s just a matter of making this time a priority.
I actually made an owl wreath a couple weeks ago that I’m pretty darn proud of:
I just got the idea to make a fall wreath and stumbled across some pretty cute ones in a simple Google search. I just took different aspects I liked and combined them and made my own owl. I love the feather “eyebrows”. My owl has attitude.
Supplies used:
- Grapevine wreath (Walmart)
- Sunflower burlap ribbon (Walmart)
- Faux flowers (Walmart)
- Faux sunflowers (Family Dollar)
- Hot glue
- 3M Command Hook for hanging
I think all of that is more than enough to keep me busy this month! My goal is to make good use of my new planner to help me stay focused. Will it work? Time will tell. Hehe.
Q. Do you have any fun fall plans and/or to-do’s this month?
xo
