July Favorites: Nintendo + 1980s Party + Strangeness

Another month has come and gone so it’s time for another monthly favorites post!

July was filled with an incredible amount of craziness. Most of it involved planning and preparing for my mom’s surprise 80’s party which ended up being so much fun! The party was a success and my mom’s reaction was priceless. Much of the credit has to go to my mom’s sister Barbara who seriously needs to reconsider her profession. She is an amazing party planner.

July Favorites: 2016

Nintendo classic relaunch.

Omg yes. Did you know the classic Nintendo is being relaunched later this year? This is the best news evar. I can’t wait! It’s going to come pre-loaded with various old school games like Super Mario Bros. and Zelda! These are games I actually know how to play, haha! Did I mention it’s under $60? This is on my Christmas list this year.

 

My first born is a teenager.

Ahhhhhhh! I hope he’s good to me. hehe. I’m so proud of the young man he’s becoming and couldn’t ask for a better kid! He even inspired a blog post I wrote for his 13th birthday: 13 Things I Want My Teenage Son to Know.

 

Stranger Things.

This is just another of those Netflix bingers that sucked us in from the beginning! Wait, is bingers even a word? If you haven’t yet heard all the talk about Stranger Things, it’s part sci-fi, part mystery and very well done! At least we thought so. I don’t usually get into sci-fi stuff but Stranger Things had me hooked.

 

My mom’s surprise 80’s theme party.

This party was so fun! Planning stresses me out to the max but it was all worth it.

Must-haves for an 80’s party:

• 80’s music: we used the Pandora app
• 80’s costumes: hair band members (wigs and bandanas), tv show characters, movie characters, pop stars, neon colors, fishnets, mesh, lots of layers, off shoulder tops, 80’s workout look
• 80’s accessories: legwarmers, big earrings, mismatched earrings, scrunchies, bangles, rubber bracelets, terry workout headbands
• 80’s hair: side ponytail, hair as high as you can make it, crimped hair, side combs, big hair bows
• 80’s makeup: pink, purple or blue eyeshadow, blush high up on the cheeks, eyeliner and mascara
• 80’s games: birthday trivia, movie/tv show trivia, categories for attendees to vote on (best costume, biggest hair, loudest makeup)
• 80’s prizes: 80’s music cds, 80’s movies, accessories, makeup, trophy for “best dressed” or “biggest hair”
• 80’s candy bar: Airheads, lollipops, Pop Rocks, Pixie Sticks, Now and Laters
