My Favorite Things: April 2016

It’s Friday and it’s time for another monthly favorites post! This time I’m including my favorite things about April since we’re now into May. Mother’s Day is already days away and I can’t believe my kids only have about 5 weeks left of school. That is crazy.

Well, without further ado….

Favorite Things April 2016

  • Revisiting the music of Prince.

Like most of the world, I was shocked and saddened by the death of Prince. I forgot how many of his songs I really love. My favorites are Raspberry Beret, 7, Let’s Go Crazy, 1999 and When Doves Cry. My sister and I went to see Chris D’elia here in Minneapolis on April 22nd (the day after Prince’s passing) and we came across this sign in Dinkytown.

  • I got retweeted by Chris D’elia!

I totally geeked out and thought this was pretty cool. This is my sister and I outside of the Varsity Theater where Chris D’elia performed that night. We were doubled over much of the time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If you appreciate his humor, you have to see him live. He’s even more hilarious in person!

The line about our faces hurting? That was no joke. My face still felt tired the next day.

  • The Real Housewives of Dallas.

If I could move anywhere in the country tomorrow, I’d move to Texas in a heartbeat. I love Texas. I used to travel there during spring break to visit my grandparents. I got sucked in to The Real Housewives of Dallas and so far I really love Brandi and Cary. They’re hilarious and like to “lighten up” Leeanne’s “charity world”. For years I refused to watch any of The Real Housewives franchises because I assumed they’d be stupid. And sometimes they are, but it’s fun to watch while folding laundry. I can’t lie. I would totally wear Brandi’s poop hat!

  • Lavender.

I have been having a heck of a time sleeping for a few months now. I was prescribed medication for sleep but I’ve been trying to wean myself off of it – which is the easy part – but I still have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep.

Enter: Lavender. Lavender is something my grandma used to spray on the guest bed when people would visit her home in California (same grandma that previously lived in Texas who now lives in Arkansas, lol). For my birthday I received this essential oil diffuser along with these oils and I’ve been obsessed with the lavender oil at bedtime. It reminds me of my grandma and it helps me fall asleep. I still have trouble staying asleep but I’m hopeful it’ll get better.

Another way I’ve been using lavender is with epsom salts. Taking a warm bath soaking in lavender epsom salts feels amazing. It feels really nice if my muscles are sore and of course it also helps relax me and calm me before I try to fall asleep. I’ve been using these epsom salts from Epsoak for the past month or so but I’ve been a fan of epsom salts for a long, long time. They’re also great for soaking your feet in.

I received a complimentary bundle of Epsoak epsom salts and I would shout how much I’m loving them from the rooftops if I could. The bundle I received also includes a muscle soak and an original unscented soak:

If you don’t have epsom salt, you need to get some ASAP. They’re the perfect way to help relax after a stressful day. This mom of four has plenty of those!

  • Paint Night.

I finally went to one of those wine and paint events with a couple good friends of mine and I really, really loved it. I find painting to be pretty relaxing and I really loved the end result of the painting I did:

This is only the second painting I’ve ever done in my life. The first one was one I did in high school that my mom stole and keeps in her office at work. I highly recommend going to one of these events if you have any interest at all. It’s fun no matter what your experience with painting is. The instructor we had was really helpful and took us through the painting step-by-step.

This April was definitely pretty fun and it will be remembered forever mostly because of the passing of Prince.
