#LaceUp4 RAINN 5K Recap

This past weekend my little family and I participated in the annual #LaceUp4 RAINN 5K! The actual run was in D.C. but they also had a virtual 5K that you could participate in and run/walk anywhere. That’s what we did!

For those who don’t know, RAINN is an incredible organization that brings awareness to, and supports survivors of, sexual violence. They also have resources and information helpful to both survivors and their friends and family.

To complete this 5K we basically walked outside our front door and went 1/2 the distance and then turned around and went back home to complete the full 3.1 miles. We headed out in the morning before it got too hot but it was still pretty toasty when we stepped out around 9 AM.

We decided to bring our newest addition to the family, Chopper, with us. He’s an olde english bulldog and he’s almost 6 months old. Had I known how quickly it was going to warm up, I would’ve left him home. Bullies don’t do well in full sun on hot days. There is a little stream nearby so we made sure he stayed hydrated along the way. :) Hubby walked the pooch and I was walking with the two younger kiddos holding a plastic bag full of poop. Good times!

All of our kids participated too. The three younger ones walked most of the way but my track star kid ran most of time. And of course he got back home far sooner than any of the rest of us! The older kids wanted to do walks/runs like that more often so there may be more of it in our future. Being outside in nature is a whole lot more interesting than running on a treadmill! And we do have some nice trails and sidewalks nearby that we could definitely be taking more advantage of.

It’s just the running part that doesn’t interest me as much as I’d like it to!
