Have you ever noticed that there’s one particular workout that you always come back to? Or maybe it makes more sense if I ask if you have a soulmate workout?
I tend to stick to home workout programs with the occasional extra strength training and/or cardio session but whenever I complete a program I tend to feel lost. Once those 30 or 60 days are over, I just feel so much freedom. I think it’s because I’ve been so structured throughout the duration of the program that I feel too much freedom, haha. I guess it’s because I crave routine. Anyway, there’s always one workout that I always come back to.
Do you experience that feeling at all? Is there one specific type of workout or program that you always tend to fall back on at some point?
I always prefer strength training over cardio but the specific workout that always reels me back in is Body Beast. Each of the workouts target a specific muscle group (or two) and then there’s also a cardio workout. One cardio workout per week is GOLD to me! I also love BodyPump. (I have the home version which is unfortunately no longer available).
I used to think all you had to do was run, run, run to get into shape. This is bad news for a self-proclaimed cardio hater (running specifically). Running does obviously help your cardiovascular fitness – and mine could definitely use some improvement – but I quickly learned through experience that lifting, or building muscle, is what actually shapes you. I wish I had known that when I was a whole lot younger – I love lifting!
When I get tired of doing dumbbell strength training workouts (which is what Body Beast basically is), I like to take a break and bring my workouts down to the basement where my precious barbell is. A barbell is literally happiness in a metal rod for this girl. A heavy squat, deadlift or bench press always makes me feel super strong. And my kids still think I’m pretty cool when they see me do them. :)
