Happy Leap Day, friends! I keep seeing these posts about how we’re going to use this extra day of the year. To me, it would feel more like an extra day if it fell on a weekend, amiright? It just feels like another Monday!
I used to do a weekly Friday Favorites series but it got to be too much for me so I’m starting a monthly series beginning with my February favorites! There really aren’t that many different things I use or try in a seven day period. I decided it’d be more fun to recap my favorites at the end of each month so here we go:
February Favorites
- Unsweetined by Jodie Sweetin.
This is a brutally honest memoir about Jodie’s struggle with addiction that began soon after her Full House days were over. It’s a little repetitive but I admire the fact that she didn’t hold anything back. She laid it all out there. I think it has the potential to give other addicts hope. She admits to her continued struggles but notes that she just takes life one day at a time. She wrote a letter to her first born daughter at the end of the book and it’s a very sweet read. I’m still a Sweetin fan and I love that she’s back on TV!
- Fuller House.
I’ve been looking forward to binge watching this on Netflix since it was announced that it was going to be on there! I’m about halfway through the first season (only because I didn’t make my husband watch it all weekend – or I’d be finished!) and it’s as awesomely cheesy as the original. I love it and my kids love it. Roger thinks its okay – he wasn’t a superfan like me to begin with but he thinks it’s alright. It’s the perfect show for kids growing up these days to watch. I wish the networks on TV would get the hint and provide more shows as good as this one for families to watch together. Wow, do I sound like a mom or what?!
A standout episode for me was when Joey babysat the kids and took all of their electronic devices away and brought out the old school Super Soakers and silly string! They’ve also made a few digs at the Olsen twins (who aren’t on the show). Good stuff.
- Costco.
I got a great deal on a Costco membership and decided to go for it and purchase a membership for the hubs for Valentine’s Day. I’ve never been a member to a warehouse club but I couldn’t pass up the chance to try at an awesome price. I scored a voucher on Living Social for $40 because I forgot I had a $15 credit in my account! We ventured there a couple Saturday’s ago and I was in awe at all of the fresh and frozen produce choices. We didn’t go too crazy though. I’ve been doing my research on what to buy and what to pass on when it comes to shopping at Costco and I’ll share my findings when I’m more comfortable. Organic produce, dairy and meat seem to be great deals but things like personal care or cold cereal…not so much.
Here’s what we purchased on our first trip:
- Two pounds butternut squash
- Four pounds broccoli
- Two pounds cauliflower
- Two dozen muffins (12 blueberry + 12 chocolate – these are amazing even after freezing and thawing!)
- 72 AA batteries (free with our membership deal)
- Three pounds tortilla chips (These were supposed to be free but I grabbed the wrong bag, whoops! Next time they’ll be free because I’ll pay closer attention :)
- 72 frozen Eggo waffles (our kids eat a LOT of these)
- 36 juice boxes (for school lunches)
- 90 servings of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey – Vanilla flavor (for $48 – on sale)
Total spent: $84.31
- Heart Photo Magnets.
I made these for the kids for Valentine’s Day and I love how they turned out. They were super easy too! I use them to hang up and keep track of their monthly reading calendars for school.
Supplies needed:
All supplies can be found on Amazon (linked up below) but are a bit cheaper if purchased from a local craft store like Hobby Lobby.
- Wooden hearts
- Photos printed on paper (I printed my own on photo paper so I could make them the size I wanted)
- Paint
- Magnets (I bought these from both Hobby Lobby and Amazon and preferred these)
- Mod Podge
- Scissors
You can see step-by-step instructions here. I love Amanda’s blog!
- Nutri Ninja Pro Compact System with Auto-IQ.
We’ve had this thing set up for two days now and have made butternut squash soup and cauliflower mash. It’s so easy to use! The clean-up isn’t all that bad either. My only complaint is that it’s REALLY LOUD. Like, REALLY LOUD. But, I expect blenders to be loud and it’s not a deal breaker for me, just a warning for you. Don’t make a smoothie if anyone is sleeping unless you want them to wake up. :)
XOXO
